Even if the weather suggests otherwise, winter wear doesn’t have to be as dark and dreary as the season. In fact, winter is the perfect time to bring out the florals, just to add some happiness to the air.
While floral prints usually come out during spring, winter florals are also fast becoming a trend. This is because the cold months of winter are already unbearable enough, so adding a splash of colour is very welcome. It’s definitely more “natural” to dress in neutrals, but adding a dash of winter florals wouldn’t hurt your outfit one bit. This isn’t to say that you should go all out and wear prints that you would usually wear during spring. The key is to find the right balance between the subdued character of winter and a splash of floral print.
First, pick the right colour. Designers like Erdem and Dolce & Gabbana are taking the lead on this, setting the floral print against a dark canvas. Of course black and navy blue are typical, but you can also go for the unconventional teal, burgundy, or deep violet.
Second, winter is more about layering, and you can add some depth to your winter florals by pairing it with plain and neutral pieces. For instance, you can go for a floral top and black skirt, or you may also pick neutral scarves, tights, and coats to go with it.
Lastly, the print can be floral but you can make it a bit “wintery” by picking the right fabric.
